Municipal Election Information
A general election for the elective officers of the City shall be held on the first (1st) Tuesday after the first (1st) Monday in April of each year. These elections are known as the General Municipal Elections.
The City is divided in four (4) Wards with two (2) elected Councilmen representing the respective Ward. The Mayor serves a four (4) year term. All Councilmen shall hold office for a term of two (2) years. The Mayor and Councilmen from the four (4) Wards comprise the City Council.
Voter Registration
Register to vote by visiting the Missouri Secretary of State website, in person at the Jefferson County Clerk/Election Authority, in person at City Hall, or by completing and mailing a Voter Registration. To be eligible to vote in any election, your Voter Registration Card must be postmarked by the 4th Wednesday prior to the election. Visit the Jefferson County Election Authority for upcoming election deadlines.

Voting precincts and locations are under the exclusive authority of the Jefferson County Clerk/Election Authority.

Becoming a Candidate
Dates for the April 7, 2026 General Municipal Election:
- First day to file is December 9, 2025 at 8am (RSMo 115.127.5)
- Last day to file is December 30, 2025 at 5pm (RSMo 115.127.5)
*Please note: City Hall will be closed December 24, 25, and 26, 2025 for the holidays.
Qualifications
Each candidate will sign a Declaration of Candidacy provided by the City Clerk that if elected the candidate will qualify. Qualifications can be found in the Missouri Revisor of Statutes, the Constitution of Missouri.
Ballot Placement
First day candidate filers ballot placement will be determined by a lottery system. After the first day to file, candidates will be placed on the ballot in the order of their filing. (RSMo 115.395.2)
Documents Required for Filing
Proof of Identity: Missouri Driver's License, Voter ID Card, Birth Certificate or other form of identification (RSMo 115.355.4).
Candidate's Affidavit of Tax Payments Form 5120: A copy of an affidavit filed with the Department of Revenue affirming that the candidate is not currently aware of any delinquency in the filing or payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, real property taxes on the place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or is not a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the city or state, other that those taxes which my be in dispute. (RSMo 115.306)
Filing Fees
- Mayor: $50.00
- Council Member: $25.00
- All other elective offices: $5.00
