The Street Department maintains over 70 linear miles (center-line miles) of streets at under 4.8 square miles of city area. The department is responsible for repair and maintenance of streets, storm sewers, trees, curbs, trash, street sweeping, barricading, bridges, street signs, and other duties as assigned.
The City of Festus has implemented a new plan for maintaining the streets of Festus. This plan includes preventative measures to reduce maintenance costs. These projects will greatly improve the conditions of the streets in Festus. The City is investing approximately $500,000 each year for this annual program.
One of the most common concerns raised by residents is speeding on residential streets. Traffic calming can be an excellent tool for enhancing the quality of life in neighborhoods by reducing traffic speeds, discouraging cut-through traffic, and improving safety on residential streets.
The Cities of Crystal City and Festus were awarded a grant for Great Streets Initiative planning assistance by East-West Gateway Council of Governments. This Great Streets project seeks to fortify Main Street, Bailey, and Mississippi between the two city halls and improve connections among the neighborhoods. This is truly a unique opportunity to author a strategy for reimagining our downtowns for a brighter reality!
Jefferson County, Missouri announces the Walk Bike Jefferson County Plan. This effort focuses on linking together Jefferson County’s community assets and designing a network for walking and for biking that improves safety, comfort, and accessibility. The Walk Bike Plan will identify opportunities to make that vision a reality.
