Chief Doug Wendel has been with the Festus Police Department since 1995. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Southeast Missouri State University and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lindenwood University. Chief Wendel served as a patrol officer until 2002 when he was promoted to Sergeant. He served the next five years on the road as a Patrol Sergeant. In 2007 he transferred to Police Sergeant and is assigned to oversee the support services division of the Festus Police Department. In 2017 he was promoted to the position Police Captain. In 2023 he was promoted to the position of Police Chief.
